Academic Year and Bi-Semester Duration
BUBT follows a model of higher education consisting of two semesters in an academic year and a Bi-Semester duration as follows.
Bi-Semester | Duration |
Spring | January-June |
Fall | July – December |
The semester duration is usually sixteen weeks: sixteen weeks for classes and six weeks for the mid-term and final examinations and results.
Academic Standards
The curricula of all programs offered by BUBT have been modeled on similar academic programs of reputed North American and European Universities to facilitate the transfer of credits earned at BUBT to universities abroad.
Registration
All new students must register for their courses in the prescribed Registration Form at the time of admission. Existing students must register for their courses of the new semester before the classes of the new semester start on payment of their semester tuition and other fees or their parts as determined by the university administration. Students should consult the Faculty in Charge/Chairman of the Department planning their course schedule and should follow the rules and procedures related to registration of courses.
Late Registration
A student who seeks to register after the first day of classes must obtain permission from the chairman and proctor office of the university. Those students who are given permission to register late may have to pay a late registration fee.
Orientation
The university authority arranges an orientation program for all newly admitted students either in groups or department-wise. Participating in the orientation ceremony is mandatory for all newly admitted students. Students are encouraged to bring their parents or guardians to the orientation ceremony.
Student Identification Cards
All new students will receive Identification Cards with a photo of the student from the admission office. These cards are used for various purposes such as entering into the campus, attending classes, using the library and computer labs, etc.
Course Offering
In the EEE program courses are followed in a logical sequence as per the semester-wise plan and prerequisite plan. At the very outset, students are encouraged to take foundation courses. Next comes the core courses. Here the students are exposed to the various aspects of their discipline from the basics to the manageable details. Having completed the core courses, students meet the requirements for enrolling in the concentration or major courses which prepare the students for a career in the chosen area of specialization. Finally, a student has to complete a senior project or thesis determined by the departmental committee based on earned CGPA.
Course Load
A student has to register for a maximum of twelve credits without laboratory credits, this is the standard followed by BUBT. However, a student may be permitted to register for more or less a number of course credits as may be decided by his intake in charge based on the demand and quality of the student.
Course Sequence
A student must pass all prerequisite courses (foundation, support and core courses) in order to register into higher-level (major/concentration) courses required for the preferred degree. All course sequences must be maintained including English Language requirements for the undergraduate programs.
Class Attendance
A student must attend at least 50% classes in all the courses to appear in the examination and the marks distribution for class attendance is given below:
Performance Evaluation
The performance of the students will be evaluated throughout the semester by class tests, quizzes, assignments and midterm exams. The end of semester evaluation includes comprehensive final exams, term papers, project reports etc. Numerical scores earned by a student in tests, exams, assignments, etc. are cumulated and converted to letter grades at the end of the semester as per the present grading system of the UGC.
Eight Letter grade will be assigned to evaluate the course performance and other works of each student of the EEE program. The letter grades A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C and D will be considered as the passing grades and F will be considered as the failing grade. The numerical equivalence of the grades are given below:
Marks | Letter Grade | Grade Point |
≥ 80% | A+ | 4.00 |
75% to < 80% | A | 3.75 |
70% to < 75% | A- | 3.50 |
65% to < 70% | B+ | 3.25 |
60% to < 65% | B | 3.00 |
55% to < 60% | B- | 2.75 |
